For NQTs - A DAY LED BY SUE COWLEY
To find CPD available from the NUT during the Autumn term click here
Can you please help us by telling your colleagues, who are newly-appointed NQTs and/or induction tutors/mentors, about the Sue Cowley seminars below? Both NUT members and others are welcome to apply. For maximum benefit these seminars need to take place early in the NQT’s first term and this leaves a relatively short time for applications – so your help in disseminating the details can ensure that your colleagues do not miss out. I would be very grateful if you would forward the details below or tell other teachers as appropriate.
ONE-DAY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY
For NQTs together with their INDUCTION TUTORS/MENTORS (all KSs):
‘A DAY LED BY SUE COWLEY’
“Superbly presented and lots of useful suggestions” (NQT, 2008)
“Excellent discussion start between me and my NQT” (Mentor, 2008)
TUTOR
SUE COWLEY – author and trainer

FOR
Newly-Qualified Teachers in their ‘Induction Year’ with their INDUCTION TUTORS/MENTORS or a senior colleague who has a formal role in supporting them as a NQT. Attendance only in pairs (or mentor plus up to three NQTs from the same school if that is the support arrangement). Open to NUT members and others.
AIMS
Led by Sue Cowley, participants will explore:
· developing positive teaching styles;
· the role of verbal and non-verbal communication in managing behaviour and practical strategies for improving behaviour;
· the link between teaching, lesson content and pupil engagement; and
· good practice in induction, support and mentoring.
By providing a common learning experience for NQTs and their induction tutors/mentors, early in the induction period, we aim to promote effective strategies for sustaining support and improvement throughout the school year.
